Networking Session on Language Technologies

Date 4 December  CLB
Time 17:00 - 17:45
Location Austria Centre, Room  2.17, Vienna, Austria

This is a reminder that we would like to invite you to a Networking Session on Language Technologies at the European Commission’s ICT 2018 conference in Vienna.
Our session “Where Multilingualism, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence meet: Language Technologies for the Next Generation Internet” takes place on 4 December 2018 in Vienna.

Objectives

Europe is a multilingual society. Powerful and ubiquitous Language Technologies (LT) are needed to enable multilingualism in all economic and societal areas of our continent including the Digital Single Market, public administrations, general IT/ICT applications and connected devices (intelligent assistants, household appliances, vehicles etc.). It is exactly this next generation of multilingual and cross-lingual LT where modern AI approaches (Deep Learning) and huge data sets (Big Data) meet with the opportunity of enabling multilingualism for the Next Generation Internet technologically. For almost ten years, initiatives such as META-NET and LT-Innovate have been advocating to increase the support for the development of sophisticated LT for Europe’s languages significantly, throughout the whole spectrum of software applications. This session has four objectives: (1) to gather all involved stakeholders (LT, AI, NGI, Big Data, HPC), (2) to update one another on recent developments and upcoming European projects, especially regarding technology-enabled multilingualism, (3) to gather the stakeholders’ needs and ideas for collaboration and (4) to plan the next steps, especially with regard to upcoming opportunities and funding programmes including FP9 and our vision of the Human Language Project.
